The full form of BUMS is Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery. It is an undergraduate medical degree in Unani medicine and surgery. The B.U.M.S. is a degree considered after completing the 5.5 years, which includes 4.5 years of the main course classes and a 1-year internship. The admissions to this course are made through the NEET. The Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) takes the B.U.M.S education and training in India. The CCIM is a statutory body under the Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH). According to the official notification given by the CCIM, there are 1,706 seats available for the B.U.M.S. throughout the country. The candidates must fulfil the eligibility criteria of B.U.M.S.

The B.U.M.S. is a 5.5-year undergraduate degree course that contains the application of the  Unani system and medical knowledge. BUMS is a different course from BAMS (Ayurveda). The Unani system of medicine has existed for a long time globally and is still dominant.

BUMS Eligibility Criteria

  • Age limit: The minimum age to apply for the BUMS should be 17 years on December 31 of the application year.
  • Qualifying Exam: The candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination in the core subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
  • The candidates must have passed Class 10th with the language subjects such as Urdu or Arabic or Persian language or must have passed the test of the Urdu of Class 10th.
  • Qualifying Exam Marks: All the General category candidates must have at least 50% marks in 10+2 or equivalent examination. The reserved category candidates must have at least 40% marks.
  • Qualifying Entrance Exam: The candidates must have a valid NEET scorecard.

The admissions to the B.U.M.S. are made based on the marks secured by the candidates in the NEET examination. The NEET cutoff candidates will be considered for admission in the B.U.M.S. course. The counselling process will do the entire B.U.M.S. admission process for the NEET aspirants.

MBBS or B.U.M.S

MBBS is not the same as B.U.M.S. Both course’s duration is the same and for admission to both courses, a NEET score is required. After pursuing B.U.M.S you will become a doctor of Unani medicine and after pursuing you will become a doctor of allopathic medicine.
