Nearly 14 lakh applications were received for the Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET-UG) this year, registering a 41 % increase from the debut edition last year, according to UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar.

With an average of 18 lakh registrations, the National Eligibility-Current Entrance Test (NEET-UG) is India’s most extensive entrance examination for medical admissions.
The maximum number of applications for CUET-UG were received from Delhi University, followed by Banaras Hindu University and Allahabad University. Among the applicants, the maximum was from Uttar Pradesh, followed by Delhi and Bihar.
Students from Jammu and Kashmir have applied in large numbers for CUET-UG, with 1,000 students spread across Europe, Asia, America, and Gulf countries.
Students from 74 countries applied this year, an increase of 1,000. By 2022, there were 59.
Northeastern University students are taking more CUET-UG courses than in 2022, by 31%. 4.34 lakh of last year’s applicants were girls, and 5.56 lakh were boys; this year, there are 6.51 lakh and 7.48 lakh applicants, respectively.
“4,61,022 applications have been submitted in 2023 for OBC-NCL (OBC-Non Creamy Layer), General-Unreserved, and EWS students, respectively. A 44% increase, 39% increase, and a 20% increase, respectively, were reported for OBC-NCL, General-Unreserved, and EWS categories compared to 2022,” the UGC Chairman explained.
CUET-UG applications closed on March 30, and the exam is scheduled for May 21-31.
